Java Moss and Glossostigma experiences

Published by Nicky Ang under Aquascape on December 15, 2008

Someone asked me about some experiences in growing Java Moss and Glossostigma. So I’m re-posting my discussion here again.

Java Moss

Hmm… I love Java Moss. They require less demanding setups and can be planted easily. You can use basic DIY CO2 or no CO2 at all. Lighting at 2 to 3 watts/gallon. Minimum fertilization, perhaps fish food is already sufficient.

You can buy some driftwood and branches and tie the Java Moss on it. After about a month, it will grow out nicely, creating an illusion of “fine leaves on tree trunks”. Trim with scissors to keep them from growing too long.

Beautiful Sunday

Published by Nicky Ang under Photography on December 3, 2008

Last Sunday, 30-Nov-2008 was a beautiful day to take pictures. Clear blue skies with few clouds.

This was shot in front of my home, using RAW and post processed using Digital Photo Professional.

For those technically inclined, this is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) composite. To make pictures like this, follow these steps:

  1. Take a shot in RAW with normal exposure. (Check your histograms).
  2. In your RAW software, create 3 different exposures on the same picture. (recommended -2EV, 0EV, +2EV for landscapes).
  3. Export them as TIFF file.
  4. You can use Photoshop to combine them or use a third party software like Photomatix.
